Problem

A student sets up a series RLC circuit with R=15 ΩR = 15\,\Omega, L=200 mHL = 200\,\text{mH} and C=2.0 μFC = 2.0\,\mu\text{F}. The supply voltage is kept constant while the frequency is varied. (i) Calculate the phase angle between the current and the supply voltage at (a) 50 Hz50\,\text{Hz} and (b) 2.0 kHz2.0\,\text{kHz}. Give each answer correct to the nearest degree. (ii) For each of the two frequencies, identify whether the circuit behaves predominantly as inductive, capacitive or resistive. (iii) Find the numerical value of the power factor at 2.0 kHz2.0\,\text{kHz}.
