Problem

A cylindrical measuring jar, whose internal diameter is 16 cm16\,\text{cm}, contains water up to a height of 12 cm12\,\text{cm}. A solid metallic sphere is gently lowered into the jar and the water level rises to 15.5 cm15.5\,\text{cm}. (i) Find the volume of water displaced by the sphere. (ii) Determine the radius of the sphere. (iii) The sphere is melted and recast into identical solid right circular cylinders each of height 4 cm4\,\text{cm} and radius 2 cm2\,\text{cm}. How many such cylinders can be made?
