Problem

A student drags a laboratory trolley along a straight corridor. The towing rope exerts a force of 120 N120\,\text{N} on the trolley, of which the horizontal component is 104 N104\,\text{N}. The trolley moves at a steady speed of 2.0 m s−12.0\,\text{m\,s}^{-1}. (i) Calculate the power delivered to the trolley by the towing rope. (ii) The student now speeds up so that the trolley moves at 3.0 m s−13.0\,\text{m\,s}^{-1} while the force exerted by the rope remains the same. Calculate the new power. (iii) Determine the percentage increase in power between the two situations.
