Problem

An ideal 12 V12\,\text{V} d.c. source is connected to a network consisting of resistors R1=4 ΩR_1 = 4\,\Omega and R2=6 ΩR_2 = 6\,\Omega in series. This series combination is connected in parallel with a resistor R3=3 ΩR_3 = 3\,\Omega. A fuse of current rating 0.50 A0.50\,\text{A} is placed in series with the whole circuit. The resistor R3R_3 is rated for a maximum safe power of 2.0 W2.0\,\text{W}. (a) Calculate the equivalent resistance of the entire circuit. (b) Determine the current supplied by the source. (c) Compute the power dissipated specifically in R3R_3. (d) State, with calculations, whether the fuse will blow and whether the power rating of R3R_3 is exceeded.
