Problem

A student is asked to distinguish between different kinds of rotational motion by examining the time variation of angular variables. (i) Explain, with reasons, the characteristic shape of a θ\theta–tt graph for (a) uniform rotation and (b) uniformly accelerated rotation about a fixed axis. (ii) Describe how one may identify, from the shape of a ω\omega–tt graph, intervals during which the rotation is (a) speeding up, (b) steady, and (c) slowing down. (iii) A plotted θ\theta–tt curve is found to be a straight line from t=0t=0 to t=2 st=2\,\text{s} and a concave-up parabola from t=2 st=2\,\text{s} to t=6 st=6\,\text{s}. Without making any numerical calculation, state the nature of angular acceleration in each interval and justify your answer.
