Problem

Two resistors R1=120 ΩR_1 = 120\,\Omega and R2=80 ΩR_2 = 80\,\Omega are connected to a variable d.c. supply in different ways as described below. (i) The resistors are first connected in series to a 24 V supply. Find (a) the total current in the circuit and (b) the potential difference across each resistor. (ii) The supply voltage is gradually increased until the current in the same series circuit becomes 0.30 A. Determine the new value of the supply voltage. (iii) Keeping this new supply voltage unchanged, the two resistors are re-connected in parallel. Calculate the current drawn from the supply in this arrangement.
