Problem

A 3.0 kg3.0\,\text{kg} block is projected down a smooth incline that makes an angle of 30∘30^{\circ} with the horizontal. Its speed along the incline is 6.0 m s−16.0\,\text{m}\,\text{s}^{-1} at the instant it leaves the top of the incline. Two seconds later its speed along the incline is 12.0 m s−112.0\,\text{m}\,\text{s}^{-1}. (i) Express the block’s initial velocity vector in terms of its horizontal and vertical components. (ii) Write the corresponding components of its initial momentum. (iii) Resolve the velocity after 2.0 s2.0\,\text{s} into horizontal and vertical components and obtain the corresponding momentum components. (iv) Compute the change in the momentum vector during the 2.0 s2.0\,\text{s} interval and state its magnitude and direction relative to the horizontal.
