Problem
An ideal transformer has 400 turns in its primary winding and 80 turns in its secondary winding. The primary is connected to a 250 V (rms) AC supply and draws a current of 0.20 A.
(i) State whether this transformer is step-up or step-down and justify your choice.
(ii) Calculate the rms voltage across the secondary winding.
(iii) Calculate the rms current in the secondary circuit.
(iv) If the number of secondary turns is increased to 160 while the primary conditions remain unchanged, determine the new secondary voltage and current.
