Problem

A child drags a sled on level snow by pulling a rope attached to the sled. The rope is held at an angle of 30∘30^{\circ} above the horizontal. (i) While the child applies a constant force along the rope, the sled moves 25 m25\,\text{m} on the snow and the force does 1.8 kJ1.8\,\text{kJ} of work. Calculate the magnitude of the force applied by the child. (ii) The child now decides to pull horizontally with the same magnitude of force found in part (i). How far must the sled be pulled for the force to do the same 1.8 kJ1.8\,\text{kJ} of work?
