Problem

A contractor is installing two support rods from the top of a vertical street-light pole to the ground on the same side of the pole. (a) The first rod makes an angle of 28∘28^{\circ} with the pole. To ensure that the two rods together form a right-angled brace at the top, find the angle that the second rod must make with the pole. (b) The designer then decides that the second rod should make an angle that is 1.21.2 times the angle made by the first rod. Determine whether the two rods can still form a right-angled brace. Give reasons for your answer. (c) If the brace in part (b) does not form a right angle, calculate by how many degrees the designer must change the second rod’s inclination so that a right angle is formed.
