Problem

An athlete can project a shot-put with the same initial speed in every attempt. She makes three trials on level ground at projection angles 20∘20^\circ, 45∘45^\circ and 70∘70^\circ to the horizontal respectively. Neglect air resistance. (a) Sketch qualitatively on the same set of axes how the horizontal range varies with projection angle from 0∘0^\circ to 90∘90^\circ, marking clearly the angle for which the range is maximum. (b) Without performing any numerical calculation, explain which of the three trials reaches the greatest maximum height and which covers the greatest horizontal range, giving clear reasons based on relevant physical relations. (c) State whether the time taken to reach the highest point is the same for the 20∘20^\circ and 70∘70^\circ throws. Justify your answer.
