Problem
An electron enters a rectangular region of uniform magnetic field B=3.0×10−2T directed into the page with speed v=2.0×107ms−1. The field occupies a strip of width d=4.0cm along the x-direction; outside this strip the field is zero. Neglect gravity.
(i) Calculate the radius of the path of the electron while it is inside the magnetic field.
(ii) Determine the angle θ (measured from the entry direction) through which the electron turns before it emerges from the field.
(iii) How much time does the electron spend inside the field region?
(iv) By what lateral distance (along y-axis) is the electron displaced from its original line of motion when it exits the field strip?
