Problem

Two resistors of 10 Ω10\,\Omega and 20 Ω20\,\Omega are connected in parallel across a 220 V220\,\text{V} mains supply for 10 min10\,\text{min}. (i) Show that the heat produced in each resistor is inversely proportional to its resistance when both are connected in parallel to the same supply. (ii) Calculate the heat produced in each resistor during the given time. (iii) Determine the ratio of the heat produced in the 10 Ω10\,\Omega resistor to that in the 20 Ω20\,\Omega resistor and comment on your result.
