Problem

The potential energy of a particle is U=100−5x+100x2U=100-5x+100x^2, where UU and xx are in SI units. If the mass of the particle is 0.1 kg0.1\ \mathrm{kg}, find the magnitude of its acceleration as a function of xx. (1) At 0.05 m0.05\ \mathrm{m} from the origin, it is 50 m s−250\ \mathrm{m\,s^{-2}}. (2) At 0.05 m0.05\ \mathrm{m} from the mean position, it is 100 m s−2100\ \mathrm{m\,s^{-2}}. (3) At 0.05 m0.05\ \mathrm{m} from the origin, it is 150 m s−2150\ \mathrm{m\,s^{-2}}. (4) At 0.05 m0.05\ \mathrm{m} from the mean position, it is 200 m s−2200\ \mathrm{m\,s^{-2}}.
