Problem

Two blocks P and Q of masses 6 kg and 4 kg respectively are connected by a light, flexible string and placed in contact on a horizontal rough table. The coefficient of kinetic friction between each block and the table is 0.15. A horizontal force of 30 N is applied to block P so that the system moves in a straight line. (i) Calculate the magnitude of the common acceleration of the two blocks. (ii) Determine the tension in the string joining P and Q. (iii) If the same 30 N force were applied to block Q instead of P, find the new tension in the string while the system moves.
