Problem
A 3.0kg block is projected up a rough incline of length 2.0m that makes an angle of 37∘ with the horizontal. The initial speed of the block is 5.0m s−1 and the coefficient of kinetic friction on the incline is 0.25. After reaching its highest point, the block slides back down the same incline (with the same coefficient of friction) and moves on to a smooth horizontal surface where it compresses a horizontal spring of force constant 600N m−1 until it momentarily comes to rest.
Answer the following:
(a) Find the distance travelled by the block up the incline before momentarily coming to rest.
(b) Calculate the speed of the block at the bottom of the incline on its return journey.
(c) Determine the maximum compression produced in the spring.
