Problem

An object is released from rest and allowed to fall freely. Its velocity increases uniformly from 0 m s−10\,\text{m\,s}^{-1} at t=0 st=0\,\text{s} to 39.2 m s−139.2\,\text{m\,s}^{-1} at t=4.0 st=4.0\,\text{s}. Treat the data as defining a straight-line velocity–time graph. (i) Calculate the magnitude of the acceleration of the object. (ii) Using only the information contained in the velocity–time graph, determine the displacement of the object in the first 4.0 s4.0\,\text{s} of its motion. (iii) Sketch the corresponding position–time graph for the interval 00 to 4.0 s4.0\,\text{s}, marking clearly the intercepts and general curvature.
