Problem

For the two fixed points A(2,4)A(2,4) and B(10,8)B(10,8) on a coordinate plane, consider an internal division point RR that partitions the line segment ABAB in the ratio k:1k:1 where kk is a positive real number measured from AA to BB. (i) In terms of kk, find the coordinates of RR. (ii) Show algebraically that as kk becomes very large, the coordinates of RR approach those of BB. Explain what this indicates about the position of RR on the segment. (iii) When k=1k=1, compute the exact coordinates of RR and state how RR divides ABAB in this special case.
