Problem

A laboratory adopts the following unconventional base units: Length   L^=1 μm\;\hat L = 1\,\mu\text{m}, Mass   M^=1 tonne\;\hat M = 1\,\text{tonne} (=10310^{3} kg), Time   T^=1 s\;\hat T = 1\,\text{s}. Using these base units, answer the questions that follow. (a) Derive the factor that converts the laboratory’s unit of dynamic viscosity (dimension [ML−1T−1][ML^{-1}T^{-1}]) to the SI unit pascal–second. (b) The viscosity of a certain oil is 0.9000.900 Pa s in SI. Express this value in the laboratory’s unit. (c) Comment briefly on whether the laboratory’s viscosity unit is more suitable or less suitable than the pascal–second for expressing ordinary fluid viscosities.
