Problem
Consider a body of mass m possessing kinetic energy K. Answer the following questions based on this information.
(i) State the mathematical expression for the kinetic energy of the body in terms of its mass and speed.
(ii) Algebraically rearrange the expression obtained in part (i) to obtain an explicit formula for the speed v in terms of K and m.
(iii) If the kinetic energy of the body is made four times its original value while the mass remains unchanged, by what factor will the speed change? Show your working.
(iv) Give a brief physical explanation for the result obtained in part (iii).
