Problem

An acute angle θ\theta satisfies 0∘<θ<90∘0^{\circ}<\theta<90^{\circ} and both sin⁡θ\sin\theta and cos⁡θ\cos\theta are non–zero. (a) Express tan⁡θ\tan\theta in terms of sin⁡θ\sin\theta and cos⁡θ\cos\theta. Explain why this expression is valid for all such angles. (b) Suppose sin⁡θ=3k\sin\theta=3k and cos⁡θ=4k\cos\theta=4k for some positive real constant kk. Show that the value of tan⁡θ\tan\theta does not depend on kk and find its value. (c) Using the result of part (ii), interpret the numerical value of tan⁡θ\tan\theta in the context of the sides of a right triangle having θ\theta as one of its acute angles.
