Problem

Consider the linear polynomial p(x)=ax+bp(x)=ax+b, where aa and bb are real numbers with a≠0a\neq0. Answer the questions given below. (i) Explain why the graph of y=p(x)y=p(x) is a straight line. (ii) Using the fact that a straight line intersects the xx-axis at at most one point, explain why p(x)p(x) has exactly one real zero. (iii) If p(k)=0p(k)=0 for some real number kk, justify why no other real number can satisfy p(x)=0p(x)=0.
