Problem

A small rocket is launched vertically upward from rest. It rises with a constant upward acceleration of 5 m s−25\,\text{m}\,\text{s}^{-2} for 8 s8\,\text{s}, after which its engine shuts off and it moves under gravity alone (take g=10 m s−2g = 10\,\text{m}\,\text{s}^{-2} downward). Neglect air resistance. (i) Calculate the maximum height reached above the launch point. (ii) Determine the total time from launch until the rocket returns to the launch point.
