Problem

A container holds two immiscible liquids: a 0.25 m0.25\,\text{m} thick layer of oil (density 800 kg m−3800\,\text{kg\,m}^{-3}) floats over 1.50 m1.50\,\text{m} of water. The open surface of the oil is exposed to atmospheric pressure. (i) Find the gauge pressure just below the oil–water interface. (ii) Calculate the absolute pressure at the bottom of the container. (iii) Determine the pressure difference between the bottom of the container and the interface.
