Problem

Two identical horizontal pipes are at the same elevation. In Pipe A the water is at rest behind a closed valve, while in Pipe B the water flows steadily at moderate speed. Using a particle-collision argument, state whether the lateral (side-wall) pressure in Pipe B is greater than, less than, or equal to that in Pipe A, and justify your choice in one or two sentences.
