Problem

When aqueous solutions of silver(I) nitrate and sodium phosphate are combined at 25 °C, a sparingly soluble solid forms immediately. Answer the following questions related to this reaction. (a) Write the balanced molecular equation for the reaction that occurs. (b) Write the balanced complete ionic equation for the same process. (c) Write the balanced net ionic equation and verify that both mass and charge are conserved. (d) Identify all spectator ions in this process and explain, in one or two sentences, why each ion is classified as a spectator. (e) From your net ionic equation, state the mole ratio between the reacting silver-containing species and the reacting phosphate-containing species, and briefly describe how this ratio is obtained from the equation.
