Problem

A science textbook states, "If two magnetic field lines were to cross, the magnetic needle placed at the point of crossing would point in two directions at once." (i) Explain in your own words why magnetic field lines never intersect. (ii) Two points P and Q are located at unequal distances from the north pole of a bar magnet. The spacing between the field lines at P is smaller than at Q. Explain what this difference in spacing tells you about the relative strengths of the magnetic field at P and at Q. (iii) Justify whether the direction of magnetic field at P and Q is the same or different, giving reason.
