Problem
A thin wire is bent into a semicircle of radius R and carries a steady current I. The plane of the semicircle is perpendicular to a uniform magnetic field of magnitude B directed into the page. Show that the net magnetic force acting on the semicircular portion of the wire has magnitude 2IBR and acts along the diameter, outward from the centre of the semicircle.
