Problem

A singly ionized neon atom (charge +e+e, mass 3.3×10−26 kg3.3\times10^{-26}\,\text{kg}) enters the region between two horizontal capacitor plates with a horizontal speed of 9.0×104 m/s9.0\times10^{4}\,\text{m/s}. The plates are 4.0 cm long, separated by 8.0 mm, and a uniform upward electric field of 1.2×104 N/C1.2\times10^{4}\,\text{N/C} fills the space between them. If the atom enters midway between the plates, calculate its vertical displacement from the entry point when it exits the plates.
