Problem

A generating station transmits 20 MW of power through lines of total resistance 2 Ω. Initially the transmission voltage is 66 kV; later it is increased to 220 kV while the power delivered remains the same. The station operates at an average load factor of 75 % throughout the year. (a) Calculate the power saved in the transmission lines after the voltage increase. (b) Determine the annual energy saved, in MWh, due to this change.
