Problem

Let aa and kk be positive constants. A curve is described by x=acos⁡t+ktx=a\cos t+kt and y=asin⁡t+ky=a\sin t+k for real tt. (i) Derive an expression for dydx\dfrac{dy}{dx} in terms of tt, aa and kk. (ii) Hence find the condition on tt for which the tangent to the curve is horizontal. (iii) If a=4a=4 and k=1k=1, evaluate the slope of the tangent at t=π3t=\dfrac{\pi}{3}.
