Problem

A single-phase ideal transformer supplies a load that draws 1.5 kW of power at 200 V (rms) from its secondary winding. The primary winding has 1000 turns and is connected to a 2200 V (rms), 50 Hz supply. (a) Determine the rms current in the secondary circuit. (b) Calculate the rms current in the primary circuit. (c) Find the number of turns in the secondary winding. (d) The original load is replaced by another load that requires 300 V (rms) while absorbing the same power of 1.5 kW. Without changing the primary voltage, calculate the required number of secondary turns and the new primary current. (e) Show, using appropriate calculations, that the product of voltage and current in the primary circuit remains the same before and after the change in load, thereby demonstrating conservation of energy in an ideal transformer.
