Problem
A skater of mass 60kg is standing on smooth ice (coefficient of kinetic friction μk=0.05). She pushes backward on the ice with a constant horizontal force of 120N for 0.80s and then lifts her skates so that no further propulsive force acts; only kinetic friction opposes her motion.
(i) Calculate the magnitude of the skater’s acceleration during the push phase.
(ii) Find the speed acquired at the end of the push phase.
(iii) After the push ends, determine the distance she travels on the ice before coming to rest.
