Problem

A small conducting ring is dropped vertically through the gap between the poles of a horseshoe magnet whose field is directed upward in the gap. Neglect air resistance. For each of the following moments, state the direction of the induced current in the ring (clockwise, counter-clockwise, or zero) as viewed from above: (i) just as the top of the ring enters the magnetic field, (ii) while the center of the ring is within the uniform part of the field, (iii) just as the bottom of the ring exits the field.
