Problem

The weights (in kg) of 70 students were represented in a histogram with the following special features: • Continuous class intervals of equal width 5 kg, beginning at 35 kg and ending at 65 kg. • The vertical axis is drawn up to 25 students, then shows a break and resumes at 55 students to accommodate taller bars. • The tops of the bars reach the following student counts:  35–40 kg: 8  40–45 kg: 12  45–50 kg: 22  50–55 kg: 18  55–60 kg: 6  60–65 kg: 4. (a) Construct the regular frequency distribution table for the data. (b) Add a cumulative (less-than) frequency column to your table. (c) Using the cumulative frequency, estimate the median weight of the students.
