Problem

Two coaxial circular coils C1C_1 (outer) and C2C_2 (inner) are placed close to each other. Coil C1C_1 is connected to a battery through a key, while C2C_2 is connected to a sensitive galvanometer. Reply to the questions given below. Each answer must be supported by proper reasoning. (i) The key in the primary circuit is pressed so that the current in C1C_1 rises from zero to a steady value. State the direction of the induced current in C2C_2. (ii) The key is now released, making the current in C1C_1 fall to zero. What will be the new direction of the induced current in C2C_2? (iii) For both situations, mention whether the mechanical interaction between the two coils is attractive or repulsive. (iv) Justify all the directions and interactions obtained above on the basis of change of magnetic flux linked with C2C_2.
