Problem

A stone is projected vertically upward from ground level. On its way up it passes a balcony that is 10 m10\,\text{m} above the ground with a speed of 12 m s−112\,\text{m\,s}^{-1}. Take g=9.8 m s−2g=9.8\,\text{m\,s}^{-2} downward. (i) Determine the initial speed with which the stone was projected from the ground. (ii) Calculate the additional time after passing the balcony on the way up until it passes the same balcony again while descending. (iii) Find the speed with which the stone returns to the ground.
