Problem

Hypochlorous acid, HOCl, is a weak monoprotic acid with Ka=3.5×10−8K_a = 3.5\times10^{-8} at 25 °C. A student prepares 250.0 mL of 0.075 M HOCl(aq) at this temperature. (a) Write the chemical equation for the equilibrium that is established when HOCl is dissolved in water. (b) Determine the percent ionization of HOCl in the solution. (c) Using your result from part (b), calculate the pH of the solution.
