Problem

A town bus is moving along a straight east--west road. The bus stop B is chosen as the origin x=0x = 0 on this road. With respect to B, the bus is first found at +2 km+2\,\text{km} (east of B) and later at −4 km-4\,\text{km} (west of B). An engineering college E is located +3 km+3\,\text{km} (east) from the bus stop B. Answer the following, taking east as the positive direction. (a) Find the initial position of the bus with respect to the college E. (b) Find the final position of the bus with respect to the college E. (c) Calculate the displacement of the bus between the two observations as measured from the college E. (d) Verify numerically whether this displacement is the same as that obtained when the bus stop B is used as the origin.
