Problem

Let AA, BB and CC be the vertices of a triangle whose position vectors with respect to an origin OO are a=2i+3j+k\mathbf{a}=2\mathbf{i}+3\mathbf{j}+\mathbf{k}, b=−i+4j+2k\mathbf{b}=-\mathbf{i}+4\mathbf{j}+2\mathbf{k} and c=5i−j+3k\mathbf{c}=5\mathbf{i}-\mathbf{j}+3\mathbf{k} respectively. (i) Find the length of the altitude drawn from vertex AA to side BCBC. (ii) Obtain, in vector form, the position vector of the foot DD of this altitude.
