Problem

A real-valued function ff is defined on an interval II containing a point cc. Answer the following questions about the relationship between differentiability and continuity at the point cc. (i) State the formal (limit) definition of the derivative f′(c)f'(c). (ii) Using the definition stated in part (i), prove that if f′(c)f'(c) exists, then ff is continuous at cc. (iii) Explain, with reference to your proof in part (ii), why the converse statement is not always true, citing a standard counter-example from elementary calculus.
