Problem

At 25 °C the reaction AB(aq)⇌A+(aq)+B−(aq)AB(aq) \rightleftharpoons A^{+}(aq)+B^{-}(aq) has Kc=1.0×10−5K_{c}=1.0\times10^{-5}. A solution at equilibrium contains [A+]=0.020  M[A^{+}]=0.020\;\text{M}, [B−]=0.020  M[B^{-}]=0.020\;\text{M}, and [AB]=0.080  M[AB]=0.080\;\text{M} in a volume of 1.00 L. Pure solvent is then added quickly to double the total volume to 2.00 L, and the solution is mixed instantaneously. Calculate the reaction quotient QcQ_{c} immediately after dilution and state whether the reaction will proceed toward reactants or products as it moves to re-establish equilibrium.
