Problem

An ideal 24 V24\,\text{V} battery is connected to a 6 Ω6\,\Omega resistor in series with a branch that can contain a 12 Ω12\,\Omega resistor in parallel with a 4 Ω4\,\Omega resistor. When the switch controlling the 12 Ω12\,\Omega resistor is open, only the 4 Ω4\,\Omega resistor is present in the branch and the battery current is I0I_0. When the switch is closed, the 12 Ω12\,\Omega resistor is placed in parallel with the 4 Ω4\,\Omega resistor and the battery current becomes IclosedI_{\text{closed}}. Calculate the ratio Iclosed/I0I_{\text{closed}}/I_0.
