Problem

For each positive integer aa, a function PaP_a is defined for all real numbers. Tables of Pa(x)P_a(x) for three different choices of aa are provided. Table 1: a=1a=1
xx202040408080160160
P1(x)P_1(x)0.550.550.5250.5250.5120.5120.5060.506
Table 2: a=2a=2
xx202040408080160160
P2(x)P_2(x)1.101.101.051.051.0251.0251.0131.013
Table 3: a=3a=3
xx202040408080160160
P3(x)P_3(x)1.651.651.5751.5751.5381.5381.5191.519
Use the tables to analyze how the end behavior of PaP_a depends on the parameter aa. (a) Using Table 1, estimate lim⁡x→∞P1(x)\displaystyle \lim_{x\to\infty} P_1(x). Support your estimate numerically. (b) Repeat part (a) for a=2a=2 using Table 2. (c) Repeat part (a) for a=3a=3 using Table 3. (d) Based on the patterns you observed in parts (a)–(c), conjecture a general formula for L(a)=lim⁡x→∞Pa(x)L(a)=\displaystyle \lim_{x\to\infty} P_a(x) in terms of aa. Provide a clear justification that references the numerical evidence from all three tables.
