Problem

A ball is dropped from rest above the top edge of a window that is 2.0 m2.0\,\text{m} tall. The ball takes 0.10 s0.10\,\text{s} to cross the height of the window. (a) Calculate the speed of the ball as it just reaches the top of the window. (b) Hence determine the vertical distance between the point of release and the top of the window. Take g=9.8 m s−2g=9.8\,\text{m\,s}^{-2}. (c) If the entire motion from release to the bottom of the window were recorded on a video, sketch qualitatively the speed–time graph for this interval and label the key numerical values found in parts (a) and (b).
