Problem

Blocks C and D, of masses mm and 2m2m respectively, start from rest on a smooth horizontal surface. The same constant horizontal force FF acts on each block through the same distance ss. (i) Using appropriate principles, obtain an expression for the kinetic energy acquired by each block after the force has acted through the distance ss. (ii) Hence find the ratio of their kinetic energies KC:KDK_C : K_D. (iii) Determine the ratio of their final speeds vC:vDv_C : v_D. (iv) If the force continues to act for an additional distance ss on each block, discuss qualitatively how the difference in their kinetic energies will evolve. Support your answer with reasoning based on the expressions obtained.
