Problem

Three very long, parallel conductors are fixed at the vertices of an equilateral triangle of side 10 cm10\,\text{cm}. Conductor 1 carries a current I1=20 AI_1 = 20\,\text{A} out of the page, conductor 2 carries I2=20 AI_2 = 20\,\text{A} into the page, and conductor 3 carries I3=30 AI_3 = 30\,\text{A} out of the page. (i) Calculate the magnitude and direction of the net magnetic field at the position of conductor 3 due to the currents in conductors 1 and 2. (ii) Hence determine the magnitude and direction of the force per unit length acting on conductor 3. (iii) If all three currents were doubled while their directions remained unchanged, would the magnitude of the force per unit length on conductor 3 change by the same factor? Give a brief justification.
