Problem

Two identical, initially neutral metal spheres are touching each other. A positively charged rod is held close to one of the spheres (without touching). While the rod remains in place, the spheres are separated. Describe the sign and relative magnitude of the net charge on each sphere after separation, and explain how this result is consistent with conservation of charge.
