Problem

On a moon of a distant planet the acceleration due to gravity is 1.6 m s−21.6\,\text{m}\,\text{s}^{-2}. An astronaut standing at the rim of a vertical crater 50 m50\,\text{m} deep throws a tool straight upward with a speed of 12 m s−112\,\text{m}\,\text{s}^{-1} from the rim level. Air resistance is negligible. (i) Calculate the maximum height of the tool above the rim. (ii) With what speed does the tool pass the rim level on its way downward? (iii) Determine the speed with which the tool strikes the floor of the crater.
