Problem

Let a∈Ra\in\mathbb R be a real parameter. Consider the equation arcsin⁡(ax)+arccos⁡x=π2\arcsin(ax)+\arccos x=\dfrac{\pi}{2} where x∈[−1,1]x\in[-1,1]. (i) Rewrite the equation so that it contains only one inverse trigonometric function. (ii) Hence obtain the condition on aa for which the equation has at least one real solution in x∈[−1,1]x\in[-1,1]. (iii) For every admissible value of aa found in part (ii), determine the corresponding solution(s) for xx.
